Chapter 15- Gendered Closeness Perspective

The book describes how women express closeness and affection to their children by direct verbal statements and nonverbal expressions such as hugging and kissing. On the other hand, men communicate their affection by sharing activities.

I have to agree with this because I see this from my older brother and sister-in-law when they are around their son. My sister-in-law always gives him kisses and she will always express her love for her son. My brother basically does all the activities with his son. They always go to the golf range, movie theaters, and baseball games specifically the Giants games.

Overall, when I came across this concept I knew it definitely relates to my brother and sister-in-law and how they express their closeness.

Hi! Chapter 15 contained a lot of new information and I really liked reading your post about closeness and affection. I wrote on this topic as well when writing my chapter 15 blog post. I understand what you’re saying! I believe that everybody, whether they are friends, family, or romantic partners, “express their closeness” differently. I express my closely differently everyday with the people that are important in my life. Once again, I really liked your post!

This is so true! I have learned that my husband loves to do activities, whether with his guy friends and me because that is how he seems to “communicate” the most. I on the other hand, like to go to coffee and talk with my girlfriends or cuddle with my husband because that is my kind of “communication.” I have thoroughly enjoyed learning how to understand our different ways to communicate. It is fun doing activities once in awhile, and I’m sure he would agree he likes to just sit and get coffee…once in awhile! :)
